Fenway Park, U.S.S. Constitution, and Prudential Building

On Friday we traveled about an hour to Boston to tour the city. It was kind of a cold and rainy day, but we wanted to go out and check out a few things. This was Jeremy's first time in Boston and he thought it was pretty cool. Here's some photos from the day:

Jeremy and I during our tour of Fenway Park where the Boston Red Sox play. The family and I were lucky enough to get tickets to the Red Sox and Yankees game last summer. It was sooo much fun and I really hope that i get to go again some day.

This is the view from the media press box. The tour guide gave us the history of the field, team, owners, and players. It was so cool to hear all of the stories. History and baseball... probably my two favorite subjects!! :D

After touring Fenway Park, we went to see the U.S.S. Constitution in Boston Harbor. I didn't get to see this last summer b/c we went on a Monday and it is the only day that it isn't open! :( So it was a must see this time for me!
The U.S.S. Constitution is known as Old Ironsides and is the oldest navy ship that is still in operation. It was completely made of wood, but was soooo strong and thick (and didn't sink) that it was nicknamed Old Ironsides. It is sooo amazing to see in person!

The navy still protects and operates this ship. You even have to go through security in order to board the ship. Here is a photo of the guns (cannons). It would take 4? guys to operate one of these.

This was the 3rd below deck. This was their sleeping quarters and it was very clausterphobic. It was uncomfortable to stand up straight. 400 men stayed on this ship at one time and they would take 4 hour sleeping shifts and didn't spend much time on this level of the ship b/c they were working.

Another view of the 3rd deck. You can kind of see the "bones" of the ship and how strong it feels.

This is a photo of the 20 lb cannon balls that they shot!! I don't think you would want to be hit by one of these boomers!
This is the captains quarters. Much more luxurious. You can see their bed on the far right behind the door. No hammock for this guy!!
This was another modern battleship that was parked. It looked pretty cool, but obviously we couldn't tour this one.

The captain's quarters was at the back of the ship with the rounded out part.

Jeremy is getting hooked by Old Ironsides anchor! :)

After the battleship tour, we headed to the Prudential Building to have a view drinks and take in the views of the city. You can go to the top of the building where they have a panoramic view of the city thru the windows.

After our tour of Boston, we headed to Portsmouth, NH (Mel's old hometown) to eat at a tasty Mexican restuarant. Then we went home and were pretty pooped for the day.
